About the London Musical Theatre Orchestra
LMTO is the world’s only professional orchestra dedicated solely to performing works of musical theatre.
Born from a desire to perform musical scores with a full, symphony orchestra, LMTO celebrates this remarkable genre of music with world-class musicians and singers. We are passionate about introducing audiences to the joys of a full orchestra performing a musical, and are committed to supporting young musicians as they enter the professional world.
Since LMTO’s public launch in June 2016, the orchestra has performed at iconic central London venues including the Royal Albert Hall, the London Palladium, the Dominion Theatre, the Lyceum Theatre and Cadogan Hall, to sell-out crowds and five-star reviews. We are dedicated to performing works from across the musical theatre canon, from the classic scores of Jerry Herman and Lerner and Loewe to the modern marvels of Lin-Manuel Miranda and Jason Robert Brown. In December 2020 we produced Alan Menken’s A Christmas Carol at the Dominion Theatre, one of the only pieces of live entertainment running in the world at that time.
We are defined by our total passion and unstoppable enthusiasm for musical theatre, and our desire to share them with audiences. We want you to experience musicals the way they should be heard: on a symphonic scale, with the world’s best players and singers. We promise you’ll never look back.
